Conrad Zwicky, Bratschist

Conrad Zwicky was born in Basel. After completing his studies (organ and viola) in Basel, he became a teacher at the Lucerne Conservatory and a member of the “Festival Strings Lucerne“. In 1972 he became deputy solo violist of the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, and in 1979 solo violist. For many years he was also principal violist of the “Zürcher Streichersolisten”, for 20 years violist of the Zurich Piano Quintet, later violist in the BAVARIA String Trio Munich-Zurich, performed in duo with the concertmaster of the Concertgebow Orchestra, Rudolf Koelman, as well as in other chamber music formations. As a soloist and chamber musician he has toured numerous countries in Europe and overseas.
For many years he directed the now renowned concert series of “Musik in Zürich” and is in charge of the equally innovative and successful CD publishing house ► WIEDISCON.

The versatile musician has appeared in recent years with numerous compositions. His enthusiastically acclaimed “Orchesteretüden” (1992) were performed in numerous concerts and festivals, such as the Spring Festival Budapest and Festival de Santander (Spain). Other works of his distinctive style are: “Chamber Music” for flute and string quartet (double bass ad. lib., 1995), Concerto for Strings (1996), Concertino for organ and strings (1999, first performed August 1999 in Koszalin, Poland).
The most recent highly acclaimed performances: in August 2011 “Concerto for Double Bass and Strings” in the music festivals of Kolobrzeg and Koszalin (Poland), in February 2012: “Orchestral Etudes” in Soeul and Incheon (South Korea), performed by the ZHdK-Strings Zurich.
